about

I am PhD candidate in ethnomusicology, musician, and flamenco aficionado at the University of California, Davis. I'm also the Editor for Society for Ethnomusicology Student News. Naturally, I'm busy reading and writing and field-working and editing and musicking (not in that order) and don't have time to update this website.

Not-so-orderly list of my musicking-related interest areas: flamenco music, dance, and culture; US American jazz; musicking; choreomusicology; sociomusicology; rhythm and groove; analysis; nostalgia; temporality; sensory studies; place and space; acoustemology; diaspora; transnationalism; cultural affinity/adoption, and . . .

More? I grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and am, among many things, I have a MA in ethnomusicology from UC Davis and a MM in musicology from Northern Arizona University; my master's thesis focuses on sociocultural issues and dimensions of performance, instruction, and tradition within the flamenco diaspora in Phoenix, Arizona.

And: I have a BA in trumpet performance from Bemidji State University in Minnesota, play flamenco guitar, as well as jazz trumpet (on occasion), and am trained and have several years experience as an instrument repair technician.
